A major in Economics offer students the opportunity to blend the theoretical side of economics with real world issues. Economics major also offer a stronger quantitative component that is valuable for graduate work in economics or for more analytical areas of government and private sector. It also provide an excellent base for graduate work in the social sciences. Students completing Economics major under the Bachelor of Business are required to take Principles of Economics, Intermediate Economics, Mathematics for Economics, Research Methodology and Econometrics. In addition, seven more specialised major option modules such as International Trade Theory and Policy, Labour Economics, Monetary Economics, Islamic Economics, Economy of Brunei and Resource Economics are required to complete to fulfil the requirement of the major.
Apart from taking 52 modular credits (MCs) in Economic major core and major option modules, to graduate with a Bachelor of Business degree, students are also required to fulfill the required 10 MCs of compulsory breadth, 20 MCs of degree core, 16 MCs of outside faculty breadths, of which 4 MCs must be taken from the Faculty of Science (FOS) or Institute of Health Science, and 32 MCs by undertaking two semesters of Discovery Year activities. These interdisciplinary module requirements are crucial to equip students not only with economics knowledge but also with modules that will enable them to be competitive in the job market. To be eligible for graduation, students have to acquire at least 128 modular credits and fulfilled specific requirement of the degree programme.
Degree Core (20 modular credits)
These are modules that must be taken by all students enrolled for the Bachelor of Business irrespective of their major. Students must read and pass these modules (worth 4 modular credits each) in order to fulfil their graduation requirement.

Breadth (16 modular credits)
These are any module that is outside the degree and major (outside the faculty). Any modules from another faculty are examples of breadth modules. Students reading the Bachelor of Business must acquire a minimum of 16 modular credits from other faculties including 4 modular credits from the Science discipline – these breadth modules are available from the Faculty of Science, Institute of Health Science and Faculty of Integrated Technology
Discovery Year (32 modular credits)
Students will undertake two semesters of discovery year activities outside the university, which comprise of 32 modular credits. More information is available here.
Modules completed at host universities during study abroad programmes will be transferred accordingly, as breadth modules.
